Press & Media Our recent press and media appearances July 2024 - Ongoing Come As You Really Are - Video Tour As part of the 'Come as You Really Are' exhibition by ArtAngel and Hettain Patel (listed below), a short film was created. Mariam features in this film, and it has been touring across the UK alongside the costume she wore for it. July - October 2024 Come As You Really Are Eight of our costumes were featured in an art exhibition titled 'Come as You Really Are' by ArtAngel and Hettain Patel. The exhibit celebrated hobbyists across the country -- our short vlogs of the exhibit can be seen here and here. Watch the Hettain talk about the project here . June 2024 NEO Magazine Feature Featured in NEO Magazine with our Dabi and Hawks costumes; issue on sale here: NEO 241 May 2022 Stitch, Please! Mariam featured on 'Stitch, Please!', a show which aired on BBC 3 and BBC 1 Northern Ireland. Hosted by Blu Hydrangea, this show saw competitors race against the clock with 12 hours and £100 to complete a costume based on a theme they were provided with. August 2021 Fast Fashion Isn't Cheap Mariam was commissioned as part of Common Wealth Theatre's (National Portfolio arts Organisation) 'There Is An Alternative' exhibition. This exhibtion invited artists to explore alternative ways of doing things, which are not considered the norm. For her piece, Mariam explored alternatives to fast fashion. She produced four full outfits, all upcycled or made from scratch, with animal heads to tell the story of a fast fashio garment. This was accompanied by an online space, accessed via QR codes at the exhibition, that provided more information about the fast fashion industry (research contributed by co-creator Natasha Pearson) May 2019 Cosplay at the British Museum Tabatha was invited as one of six cosplayers to promote the press release for the British Museum's Manga exhibit in May 2019.

Video Archive Our Video Archive can be found here or at the bottom of the page Cosplay Chess Cosplay Chess is a scripted game of chess played between two characters, using other cosplayers as the chess pieces! Cosplayers from any and all media take to a life size chess board and substitute for pieces, playing a chess match but often with some interesting outcomes... Battles between pieces may be comedic, dramatic or just plain silly. We have scripted and hosted cosplay chess before, and are booked to do so again. The video of this can be found here: Cosplay Chess at Hotarucon 2022 Buying Cosplay Like A Pro This panel covers two main topics - firstly, how and where to buy costumes from, in an ever expanding and increasingly confusing market. Secondly, we discuss fast fashion and sustainability, touching upon unhealthy social media trends to constantly be buying new outfits. This panel was very well received at London MCM October 2021, the video of which can be found here: Buying Cosplay Like a Pro Youtube Video Diversity in Cosplay This is primarily a Q&A panel, giving a platform to cosplayers who are a minority in the community. We discuss everything that's good, inclusive and welcoming about the cosplay community as well as touching upon ways in which we can all create an even better environoment. This panel involves opening applications for panelists and running a rehearsal session amongst other things. Therefore, to bring this to your event, we will need a minimum of two months notice. This panel was very well received at London MCM October 2021, the video of which can be found here: Diversity in Cosplay London MCM 2021 Cosplay on a Budget Cosplay has a reputation for being expensive. However, as with most creative hobbies, it can be cost-effective if you plan it right. This panel disusses picking a reasonable budget for your costume, and offers tips and tricks for staying within that budget. This panel has been run at multiple conventions, the October 2019 MCM version can be viewed here: Cosplay on A Budget at October MCM 2019 Cosplay Makeup for Newbies Makeup is a skill, and one many people don't use in their day-to-day lives. Cosplayers can sometimes find themselves wrestling with the world of cosmetics for the first time when trying to get good photos in their costumes. This panel aims to introduce cosplayers to makeup basics, as well as teaching cosplay-specific essentials like changing the colour of your eyebrows! This panel was very well revieced at Hibanacon, the video of which can be viewed here: Cosplay Makeup for Newbies Cosplay Armour 101 Some of the biggest, most impressive designs in modern media involve a lot of armour. As a new cosplayer, it can be daunting or overwhelming to think about how to build something like that. This panel aims to introduce beginners to armour making - everything from materials and adhesives to invest in, through to common mistakes and potholes to avoid. This panel has been delivered multiple times, including a global livestream as part of CowbuttCrunchies' Craftchella Posing with Props There's a trend amongst the characters we all love - , they're probably going to wield a weapon, and wield it well. We, however, are unlikely to know how to use those weapons correctly - how do you make a photo look convincing, or even pose for a photo at all? This panel takes the audience through con safety for props (suitable materials as well as what is illegal or banned concerning weaponry), and then offers good posing tips for three of the most popular classes of weapon. This panel has been delivered at multiple conventions. How to make Chainmaille for Beginners Chainmaille can be seen in many popular designs across both Japanese and western media. This panel is an introductory workshop to the different weaves you can use to make chainmaille, teaching the beginner how to get started with their first piece. This panel was last delivered on global livestream as part of CowbuttCrunchies' Craftchella Henna Art 101 Henna art (mehndi) is a beautiful tradition popular in many cultures around the world. Given it's nature as a temporary tattoo, it has great potential for use with cosplay and costuming. This panel teaches the audience about what henna is, how it's used around the world, and how they could use it themselves. This panel was last delivered at October MCM in London, 2021. Mythology in the Fate Franchise (Type-MOON) The Fate franchise has enjoyed incredibly populrity amngst the comunity. This series takes figures from modern and ancient history as well as mythology and uses them as characters. This panel walks the audience through the mythological references made throughout the franchise with an academic lens. This panel has been delivered multiple times, a recording of it can be seen here: Mythology in Fate Mythology in Anime (4 part series) Mythology and ancient history are often used as inspiration for elements of the design and narrative in anime. This is a four-part series covering the mythology in some of our favorite anime from over the years. This has been delivered at multiple convetions. One of the four parts can be viewed here: Mythology In anime (2016) Mythology in Homestuck Through it's long run, the Homestuck webcomic garnered a large and devoted fanbase. Mythology features extensively throughout the comic, and this panel aims to contextualise some of the names, figures and references made throughout the comic. This panel has been delivered multiple times. It can be viewed here: Mythology in Homestuck 3. Cosplay on a Budget 1. Buying Cosply Like A Pro Chess 2. Diversity In Cosplay Makeup Armour 101 Chainmaille Posing with Props Henna Myths - anime Myths - Fate Myths - Homestuck COMING SOON Workshops we will be looking to bring to conventions in 2022 and beyond A cosplayer's guide to Historical Costume Much of our favourite media takes inspiration from history. Looking into the most common fabrics, techniques or dyes of a time period can be a fun way to add something extra to your costume. This panel takes the audience through a series of popular characters and examines them through a historical lens. What elements of the designs have been inspired by history, and how can we incorporate that into our costumes? This panel will debut at Hotarucon, 2022. Tips and Tricks for Running Meets With over a decade of experience running meets, including running them in the United States with hundreds of people, we have learnt many lessons. Recently in the UK, meets have been getting bigger and conventions have been recognising them more. It feels like the right time to offer a panel with tips and tricks for running safe, accessible and inclusive meets. Photo from the Genshin Impact Photo project we ran in 2022; this involved around 40 cosplayers, several photographers and a five person committee (including a safeguarding officer and an accessibility officer). Photo credit: naxsnaps Budgeting for Conventions: Time, Energy, Money Conventions can be expenses, in more than one way. Tickets, hotel and travel can quickly add up. Then, with the summer having a convention every other weekend, they can drain both your time and energy before you know it. This panel is about budgeting your resources effectively to have the best possible experience at your conventions. Genshin Impact: The Archon Gameshow! Open world RPG Genshin Impact has taken our communities by storm. This will be a fun, lighthearted gameshow style event with audience interaction. Elements of this have been trialled at a panel we participated in at Japan Expo in Paris, so we are confident it has real potential. The format will involve cosplayers of the Archon from each region in Genshin Impact presenting classic british gameshows, with cosplayers of other characters from each region pairing up with the audience to vye for victory. - About | Sparkieandceres
Sparkie & Ceres TheSparkofRevolution & CereselCosplay We are Tabatha (thesparkofrevolution) and Mariam (CereselCosplay), a cosplay duo based in the United Kingdom. Our focus is on the promotion of diversity within the cosplay community at all levels. As minority cosplayers ourselves, we (like many others in the community) are growing tired of seeing the same thing in every conventions guest lineup. We run diversity panels and discussions at conventions (see our video archive for more), and we have experience as guests, judges and masquerade hosts (more on that here ). We have been attending and panelling at conventions across the world (from the UK and Europe to America and Japan) for over 15 years. We can run a variety of panels including but not limited to: Cosplay how-to panels for beginners Diversity Panels Mythology & Ancient History panels Astrophysics & Astronomy panels. Further information on these panels can be found here . We are well well acquainted with the cosplay community, moderating a number of UK based cosplay groups, as well as regular meet up and shoot runners both inside and outside of conventions. We have experience with competition; Tabatha has come runner up for the C4 qualifier at MCM, and Mariam was a participant on the BBC’s Stitch, Please! programme in 2022. As such, we can bring valuable insight to the cosplay aspect of your event. For more information about the various ways in which we can work with you, click here .
